Bethel Springvale Inn Hits a High Note with Piano Donation

The grand piano that sat in the lobby of Bethel Springvale Inn for several decades is starting a new life on the streets of Beacon where it will bring music to a whole new group of people. It is being donated to Keys of the City, a community project which takes old working pianos and places them along the streets and in public places for anyone to stop and play.

The project, led by sculptor Ed Benavente and organized by BeaconArts, began last fall when about 20 or more donated pianos were placed around the city. Local artists paint and accessorize the pianos prior to their debut.

The goal is to raise awareness and money for music education and access to the arts through the BeaconArts organization.

Says Patricia Pelican, Community Relations Director for Bethel Springvale Inn, “Our piano has served us well over the years, but it was time to let it go. We were so glad to find such a creative way for this instrument to continue bringing music and smiles to people, as it surely will, on the streets of Beacon.”

Look for Bethel’s donated grand piano in Beacon during the months of September and October when the Keys to City is underway again.
